OTTAWA, ON — The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) has made another attempt to manipulate Canadian MPs: publicly denounce Israel or lose access to mosque photo-ops during the holy month. In an open letter backed by mosques and islamic organizations, the NCCM demanded MPs condemn Israel Defense Forces’ “war crimes” in Gaza, push for an immediate ceasefire, and restore funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA – often considered a front to the terrorist group Hamas*) linked to the October 7, 2023, palestinian massacre of Israeli civilians, including seniors, women, children, and even babies. The move, echoing a recent push by the islamic groups to ouster a pro-Israel NDP MLA in British Columbia, signals a concern trend of political manipulation by terrorist-supporting groups.

The NCCM’s stance puts MPs in urban and suburban ridings—where islamic populations influence local politics—under intense scrutiny. With islamists comprising 4.9% of Canada’s population (Statistics Canada, 2021), their concentration in competitive areas like Calgary Skyview (14,000 eligible voters) apparently gives them the perception they can influence Canadian politics. The Canadian-Muslim Vote notes that in 2021, Muslim voters outnumbered victory margins in one-third of ridings. This electoral clout mirrors a “Gaza backlash” seen in Michigan’s Democratic primary, where over 100,000 voters chose “uncommitted” to avenge Biden’s Israel support.
In Canada, the pressure is palpable. Mosques refusing MPs who don’t comply could disrupt traditional outreach, especially for Liberals who’ve courted the community since toppling Stephen Harper’s Conservatives in 2015 over policies like the niqab ban. Justin Trudeau, despite photo-ops at mosques and ceasefire calls, faces waning support, with pro-“palestinian” activists heckling him publicly. Yet, he dismissed the NCCM’s demands Thursday, vowing to visit any welcoming mosque without bowing to the letter’s terms.

The Michigan parallel—where Biden lost ground in Arab-majority Dearborn and islamist-heavy Hamtramck—offers a informative tale. A CAIR poll showed 90% of Michigan’s islamic voters went “uncommitted,” with Trump leading Biden among them (CAIR, March 2025). In Canada, vulnerable MPs may weigh electoral risks against principle as Ramadan nears, testing the Liberal Party’s decade-long islamic rapport and Trudeau’s resilience amid a shifting political tide.
* It has been demonstrated that UNRWA employees had participated in the violence against innocent Israelis during and after the October 7th massacre, and that UNRWA-sponsored schools promote terrorist rhetoric and provide terrorist training to palestinian children. Furthermore, there is evidence that the UNRWA has helped conceal Hamas terrorists, arms, and tunnels as part of their normal operations in Gaza, and Israeli hostages were held in UN camps.
