Anthropic Secures $3.5 Billion, Valued at $61.5 Billion, to Propel Next-Gen AI Development

San Francisco, CA – Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) safety and research company, has announced a significant Series E funding round, raising $3.5 billion and achieving a post-money valuation of $61.5 billion. The investment, spearheaded by Lightspeed Venture Partners, drew substantial participation from a diverse array of investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Cisco Investments, D1 Capital Partners, Fidelity Management & Research Company, General Catalyst, Jane Street, Menlo Ventures, and Salesforce Ventures.  

This substantial capital infusion will empower Anthropic to accelerate the development of its next-generation AI systems, significantly expand its compute capacity, delve deeper into mechanistic interpretability and alignment research, and expedite its global expansion.  

The funding announcement follows the recent launch of Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude Code, building on Anthropic’s ongoing product and commercial advancements. Notably, Claude 3.7 Sonnet has demonstrated exceptional coding abilities, a domain where Anthropic plans to make further strides in the coming months. The company’s overarching vision is to develop AI systems that function as genuine collaborators, assisting teams in tackling complex projects, synthesizing information across various fields, and enabling organizations to achieve significant impact.  

Anthropic’s AI solutions are rapidly gaining traction across diverse industries. Fast-growing startups such as Cursor and Codeium, along with global corporations like Zoom, Snowflake, and Pfizer, are leveraging Claude to transform their operations. Examples of this include:  

  • Replit integrating Claude into its “Agent” feature, enabling natural language-to-code conversion, resulting in a reported 10X revenue growth.
  • Thomson Reuters utilizing Claude within its CoCounsel tax platform to support tax professionals.
  • Novo Nordisk employing Claude to drastically reduce clinical study report writing time from 12 weeks to a mere 10 minutes.
  • Claude now powering enhanced AI capabilities for Alexa+, bringing advanced AI to millions of households and Prime members.
